Want to Buy an SSL Certificate?
Posted by on 09 December 2010 03:09 PM

Edit: Effective 8/28/2015 Arvixe is no longer offering free shared SSL certificates. Please contact support with any questions you may have.

First, we have written an article to address the question Do I Need a Dedicated IP Address?

A one-year domain-validated SSL certificate is $25.  Some of our hosting plans come with one such certificate for free:  BusinessClass, VPSClass and DedicatedClass (and their ASP equivalents).

We require the following information to generate the CSR, and ultimately order the certificate.

================
Domain:  (www.domain.com will cover domain.com and www.domain.com)
City:
State:  (unabbreviated)
Country:  (two-letter ISO country code)
Company Name:
Company Division:
Email:
================

If you already have your own certificate, we will install it for free.

You can email [email protected] with the above information and we will process your request ASAP.

Please include your Arvixe username with your request.

So if I have 3 domains, does the $25.95/year cover all three domains? or is it $29.95/year/domain? Also, do I need a dedicated IP address for each domain, so $6/mo or is the one IP available for all three? I want all three sites to appear as different domains even though it is under the same hosting account.

You will need a separate SSL certificate for each domain. On our Windows plans, you can purchase 3 different IPs and 3 different SSL certificates for 3 different domains. However, our linux plans have a limitation of only allowing 1 domain out of the ones being hosted to have a SSL certificate/dedicated ip (unless you have a resellerclass or a vps/dedicated).

When you say 'we will process your request ASAP' are we talking minutes, hours, or days?
Arvand Sabetian

As we not only order the ssl certificate, but verify it on your behalf and also install and test it, ssl orders are not automated (unlike companies that may just be selling a generation of the certificate). Therefore, a request can taken anywhere between a few minutes to over a day depending on our current work load. However, as we understand different individuals have different needs and urgencies, you could expedite your request or simply have us to do it for you over the phone/chat .

An SSL certificate with Arvixe is 25$/per year. Please contact our support team, and we will get it installed at no additional charge (other than possibly a dedicated IP which is 2$/per month). Once it's installed, you can visit https, or configure your scripts to automatically redirect to https, or do this via an .htaccess redirect rule.

yes when you purchase this do you get a green bar across the web browser for your site or a lock or something on the top?
Ryan C
19 October 2011 08:11 AM
The green bar is not available on the $25.99 SSL. It is typically only available on SSL's that are $300 and over. I would suggest contacting our sales department to get exact pricing if you require the green bar.

I have one domain with one sub-domain. Do I need to purchase SSL Certificate for both domain & sub-domain or just for one SSL Certificate for both?
Ryan C
18 October 2011 06:54 AM
By the nature of SSL certificate, they only secure that specific domain and the www variant of the domain. You would either need to developer accoridngly with only one or the other secured (subdomain or main domain) or have to purchase a personal class plan for the main domain, and a personal class plan for the sub domain that you want secured, etc. This is a limitation of cPanel, as cPanel only allows one dedicated IP per account, one SSL per account. Our ASP plans do not have the limitation of one SSL per account, one dedicated IP per account.

Ryan C
17 October 2011 12:56 PM
Hi,

We do not limit the amount of SSL's / dedicated IP's purchased on our ASP plans per say, only the amount of websites. The ASP plan is limited to an amount of 6 websites, one SSL per website, so for a total of 6. The ASP Pro has no limit.

This is a good summary I have 2 further questions
(1) Is the certificate being sold AICA Webtrust complaint?
(2) Is the certificate's Root Authority included in
IE,FF,Chrome across platforms?

Thanks, To answer your questions, yes the certificates are AICPA WebTrust compliant, and the Root Authority is accepted in all of the major web browsers.

This post is very helpful, thanks.

I have a question, I am on ASP Pro plan. i want to secure my domain and also about 3 subdomains. I may be interested in SSL from Globalsign or RapidSSL. do i need to purchase 4 different IP addresses and SSL Certs or is there a better solution.
Michael Carr
26 March 2012 06:08 PM
You can purchase a wild card SSL certificate that could secure www. and any of your other sub-domains, but each sub-domain will need its own IP and they are much more expensive. For only four total sub-domains to secure, unique SSL certificates for each one will be more cost effective.

I have a VPS Reseller Account and I wish to Buy a SSL Certificate and then share and use my own SSL on the same way of Arvixe Shared SSL?
Michael Carr
13 April 2012 01:30 PM
Sure that is fine so long as you are on a linux VPS. By default you should already have a shared arvixevps.com SSL setup. But we should also be able to setup a custom hostname for you to match your SSL if desired.

Using the SSL certificates you're selling would the address bar look the same as it does for this page? I'm using IE9 now and at the right end there's a green arrow pointing to the left and when you mouse hover it it says, "Protected site". If I click on the padlock in the address bar and "View certificates" the Issued by shows Equifax Secure Certificate Authority. So I guess that would say Globalsign for the certificates you are now selling. So basically visitors to your site would see "Protected site" and the padlock also.
Michael Carr

Yes, our SSL certificates will display the protected site message and the padlock.

I have read the following posts and I want to make sure I can assign this SSL certificate to selected pages only and not my entire site if I want. For example; I would like to just put the SSL on my shopping cart pages and not my entire site as I've read it will slow down my site loading time if I apply it to my entire site.
Michael Carr
04 September 2012 10:30 AM
Yes that is how it will work. When you install the SSL you can access any page on that URL over SSL or not. How the pages will load will depend on how you link to them. For example if all your home page links are set as https:// then the home page will load over SSL, but if you leave them as http:// then they will load without SSL. It is entirely up to which method is used to load the pages.

Hi Valerie,

if you would like the SSL to run over both, you should order the certificate as www.domain.com, if you were to order it just as domain.com, or secure.domain.com then the www would not be included. My above comment is not correct, thanks for pointing that out.

I am a developer from India working on a project from US customer. My customer have a dedicated server with you and now I want to secure couple of page of my site though SSL. I would like to know whether buying a SSL for entire site or for couple of pages makes any difference in price. If YES, what is the per page cost of SSL and for entire site?

Will it make any difference if I buy SSL certificate either from you or from other provider if I wish you to configure the SSL for my site/pages?

My understanding is – Irrespective of whether I buy SSL for entire site or for specific pages and If I provide HOST to make cert for as www.<mydomain>.com, my site/pages will always show SSL regardless of how I enter the URL in address bar (like www.<mydomain>.com or http://<mydomain>.com or https://<mydomain>.com ), Is that right?

How long will it take to see the SSL on my website from the point I decide to buy SSL certificate from you, then someone from support setting the SSL on my entire site/couple of pages and related validations if any?
Michael Carr
28 December 2012 10:59 AM
SSL certificates have a base cost starting at $24.95. Once the SSL certificate is installed, you can access any page under that domain via SSL, there is not a limit on the number of pages. The domain that you order the SSL for will be accessible via www.domain.com as well, but not any other subdomains like secure.domain.com for example. Turn around time on setting up a certificate is usually less than 24 hours. Keep in mind that along with the SSL, you will also need a dedicated IP for your account, those are $2 per month.

I'm running OpenCart on my website with multiple stores, each as a sub-domain. Do I need an SSL certificate for each store (sub-domain) or will I need only one SSL to cover the main domain?
Michael Carr
07 June 2013 08:09 AM
You can but a wild card SSL to encrypt all of the sub domains, but they can be expensive. If you do not do that you will have to buy a separate SSL certificate for each sub domain. It just depends on how many sub domains you would like to encrypt as to if the wildcard SSL would make more fiscal sense for you.

Normally both domain.com and www.domain.com are encrypted with the same certificate when you setup the CSR as www.domain.com. If you only specify domain.com, some providers will leave the www out.

Now I am confused again. What is the difference between getting SSL with www.mydomain.com and also using mydomain.com with SSL and ordering abc.mydomain.com with SSL and also using mydomain.com with SSL. I get that www. and abc. would be different but isn't mydomain.com equally under both. Does www have some special status, and if so is this an Arvixe thing or part of the SSL standard?
Michael Carr
16 January 2014 11:18 AM
If you order SSL for mydomain.com the www is included by default. If you order SSL for any sub-domain, that is the only sub-domain that the SSL will work under. Ordering SSL for abc.mydomain.com does not make the certificate work for mydomain.com. The difference is in what you are ordering the SSL certificate for exactly.

what about your SSL provider name?
Michael Carr
01 January 2014 08:20 AM
256 bit are all that we supply. The encryption is done on the server and our servers are very powerful, The effect of load time on between the two would not be noticeable in our environment. Our SSL certificates come from GlobalSign.

Okay. If I am reading everything correctly, if I move my file from my sub domain, and place it under my main domain www.mydomain.com, and link to it from my main site, they will all be covered by one SSL cert. After doing the necessary service upgrade to a dedicated IP. Is this correct? I will be linking to a chat, a forum, and a social networking site. All would be linked to my primary domain.
Michael Carr
08 October 2014 12:01 PM
A single SSL certificate encypts a single domain. So anything you place under that domain, and accessed via www.domain.com can be encrypted. It will not however enable you to encrypt other sub domains such as chat.domain.com.

I have an odd scenario and would like to see if this configuration would work.

I have an ASP Pro hosting account with Arvixe. I've currently purchased one additional IP. I have a subdomain and website (xxx.domain.com) that uses the static IP and an SSL cert applied to that subdomain (ssl purchased elsewhere).

Ideally, I'd like to purchase a wildcard SSL certificate (*.domain.com) and apply it on my subdomain (xxx.domain.com). I would then point other subdomains to the existing website (xxx.domain.com). No new websites would be created. Just additional subdomains (yyy.domain.com, zzzz.domain.com) that would point to the existing subdomain (xxx.domain.com) that already has a website created.

Would the SSL certification work out OK?

Ryan C
26 January 2015 08:23 PM
Wild Card SSL certificates allow you to secure a specific domain, and all subdomains of a domain. The directory structure should have no baring, as SSL's are assigned on a website level basis (website being either a website or subdomain which is like a stand alone website in IIS)

Hey, i paid for the SSL Certificate and Dedicated IP along with Personal Class Web hosting. Dedicated IP is shown on Billing panel page under Active Addons. But SSL Certificate is not showing and i haven't got SSL Certificate.
Please help me because i have already paid for SSL Certificate.
Ryan C
28 January 2015 10:27 PM
For one reason or another, the dedicated IP may not have yet been assigned, and it needs to be assigned before the SSL is assigned. The SSL process, once ordered, should create a ticket for you. Simply email support [at] arvixe.com with your username of your account, and we can check on the status of the SSL request.

Hi,
I have a VPS server with Arvixe (ASP PRO) and I would like to install SSL on my Main Domain and all sub Domains (www.Mail.com, www.Sub1.Main.com, www.Sub2.Main.com etc). I already have one dedicated IP Address,
1. Do I need separate dedicated IP Addresses for all subdomains?
2. Do I need separate SSL Certificates for all sub domains?
3. I believe that I am eligible for a free SSL Certificate, is that true? Can I use that on the main domain and the sub domains?
Thanks.
Ryan C
28 January 2015 11:01 PM
1) Yes you will
2) Yes you will unless you purchase a wild card SSL (not free)
3) Business Class and VPS class customers do receive a free SSL. Please contact our sales department with the domain you want it applied to and we will get it completed.

Good day,

I have two reseller accounts (linux and win). Need to add SSL on one of the sites on the windows account. I understand for a basic SSL cert it is $25 p/a and $2 p/m for dedicated IP.

On the sales chat the consultant said the one showing the green bar in the browser's address bar is the same price plus the amount for a dedicated IP ($25 + $24). Is this correct?

I presume the dedicated IP is also compulsory for the standard cert, correct?

Thanks and look forward to hearing from you.

An Extended Verification SSL is currently priced at 399.00/year. The dedicated IP would be $24/per year or 2$/per month. We apologize for any confusion.

Does linux "Personal class" plan still has limitation of only allowing 1 domain out of the ones being hosted to have a SSL certificate/dedicated ip ?

This remains a limitation on most of our servers. If you have specific questions relating to this, I recommend contacting our support. For now I'd recommend expecting to pay for a dedicated IP per website with an SSL.

am currently engaged a company to develope for me hotel/flight booking engine similar to hotels.com or yatra.com i expect a lot of traffic and i need advice on the best server for me in this case. would also like to know about the SSl certificate.
secondly i would need back up server to supplement in case of server down time as i wouldn't need to see clients complaining about down time and processing time for data.

I'd recommend our business class to start up with CloudFlare which will "keep your website" online temporarily while the server is down. Our business class has very high overall uptime though.

This package does not come with an SSL Certificate. You would need to reach out to our support team and provide us your SSL for us to install it, our contact our sales team to purchase an SSL if you do not already have one.

We are hosted at Arvixe with Dedicated CloudClass Premium Server (http://www.bigbenta.com), inline with these, we would like to ask the following.

1. May we know Arvixe's latest provider of certificates?
2. Given with our hosting information, may we know if we have a free SSL Certificate from the Arvixe, LLC.
3. How long would it take to enable the HTTPS (SSL) for our domain (parent domain only, no sub-domains)?
4. Do we still have to pay something after the installation? Please validate.

Please let us know immediately. Thank you very much

Hello,
I have few questions,
The first one is that I have two websites running one dedicated IP address. Now I want to purchase one SSL, I may purchase another later. Do you I need to purchase another dedicated IP ? May I keep two websites on the dedicated IP but only one with SSL ?
The other one is, can I test this SSL on my local machine before I upload the site ??
Thanks

This can vary from server to server. I'd suggest contacting our support department to get a concrete answer specific to your account.

1) We make use of GlobalSign's AlphaSSL's
2) Please double check with our sales team as I do not want to make a statement now that may not apply in the future
3) Our team team can get this enabled quickly for you once the request has been finalized (whole process taking no more than 24 hours)
4) The purchase of the SSL includes free install through us.

Good day. I want my website to have a .co.za (South African) domain name. But as Arvixe doesn't sell .co.za domain names I will opt for the free .com domain name when buying the hosting. I will then just change my DNS settings (From my domain company here in South Africa) for the domain name to redirect to the Arvixe servers. But now I need to know if I buy the SSL Certificate from my "Domain name" company will yo be able to install it for the .co.za domain? And will I need a dedicated IP address to do the above? I am buying your Personal Class Option. Thank you.

What you are describing sounds fine; the SSL can be installed as long as the CSR is generated on our side. It will require a dedicated IP address to be allocated to your account as of the time of this writing (which is an additional $2/per month.)
